What North Carolina's governor needs is a vision, visibility and the ability to work well with members of both political parties to implement his or her agenda.

Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory could effortlessly step into that role. He understands that a leader must not only have good ideas, but be able to sell them.

Although leading North Carolina's largest city isn't the same as running a state, McCrory is familiar with problems caused by rapid growth, inadequate infrastructure, pockets of poverty and crime. He would tie education to economic policy and road planning to local growth planning efforts.
