Pat McCrory celebrated the latest victory in his undefeated political career Tuesday with more than 100 supporters at the SouthPark Marriott.
In a 10-minute speech after winning the Republican primary for governor, McCrory interspersed his campaign message with admiration for rivals he had just defeated and with appreciation for local voters.
"You allowed me to be on the City Council for six years. You've allowed me to serve as mayor for more than 12 years," he said, before recounting some of his biggest challenges as mayor.
Supporters cheered and held up signs after spending three hours watching results. They used a laptop to break down how McCrory fared in individual counties, especially those near Charlotte where he dominated. . . .
